ON KEEPING THINGS NEUTRAL

ON KEEPING THINGS NEUTRAL - CassandraMyee

I'm a neutral lover at heart; you'll find me reaching for brown hues for eyeshadow rather than something bright, a nude lip over a bright pink one, and a natural blush tone. Although of course, I like to introduce a bit of colour and life into my beauty routine every now and then, I'll always feel safe with a more neutral palette, and not only is that in my makeup choices, but also in my style and jewellery options too.

In my makeup stash you'll find hoards of neutral eyeshadows, in various formulations. I've got palettes (a favourite being the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette), I've got cream shadows, eye shadow sticks - all in various neutral tones of browns, bronzes and creamy champagnes. Neutral shades work for everyone and are practically fail safe when integrated into your makeup routine. When it comes to lips I always gravitate to that nude pink colour, or the 'my lips but better' sort of shade, and find it so hard to deviate from them - when I know it works I tend to get stuck in my ways!

Although I do love some bright nails, there are times when I just want something very understated and natural. Essie do some gorgeous neutral shades, the ones pictured above are Sand Tropez and Take It Outside, both shades I reach for so often as I know they'll go with everything.

As I said earlier when it comes to my style, I like it neutral and I like it simple. I've never been hugely into jewellery, I had my ears pierced once when I was around 10, but the constant struggle of having to take them out for sports was a pain for me, and now I've got no desire to get them redone again (to many people's shock!) I wear necklaces occasionally, but my preferred jewellery to wear is rings.

I love a good statement ring, but on a daily basis I'll go for something smaller and daintier, and these Stacker Rings* from Emma & Roe by Michael Hill suit my style a lot. They're neutral and simple, but also provide a bit of interest, and paired with a natural manicure these look sleek and polished. The three pictured from top to bottom are; Sterling Silver Ridged Stack Ring* (AUD $39.00), Patterned Burgundy Cubic Zirconia Stack Ring* (AUD $79.00) and Sterling Silver Stack Ring* (AUD $39.00).

Stacker rings are always a good option in my mind, you can wear just one for a very simplistic look or stack them as I have in the photo above to create your own custom jewellery piece. Emma & Roe have a bunch of different designs with cubic zirconia stones of various shades, and offer gold and silver too with plenty of gorgeous designs to chose from. There's definitely some more elaborate and intricate designs, but if you're anything like me then these neutral tones and simplistic styles are the way to go.

I visited the stand alone Emma & Roe store at Westfield Manukau a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away by the choice of jewellery they offer - there are so many designs, it's almost overwhelming! The store itself is beautiful, very girly and packed with lots of pink accents. The great thing is they offer a range of prices across their line; I mean $40 for a high quality sterling silver ring is a pretty amazing price! With Christmas on the way, Emma & Roe jewellery would make for a gorgeous present under the Christmas tree for a loved one, or that special someone.

So do you like to keep things neutral in your beauty and jewellery choices? What sort of jewellery do you like wear?
