E.L.F. COSMETICS | Get The Look Kit - Review + Swatches

e.l.f. and I have a very strong relationship; I use various e.l.f. products on a daily basis and because you can get them so cheap, I love trying out different things from the huge range. iHerb stocks a lot of the kits and packs, such as this 5 piece 'Get The Look Kit'. At a price of USD $5.00, and in the midst of doing a very large iHerb haul (see the aftermath here), I added this one to the cart to try out.

The kit contains five items, three makeup pieces and two tools. As a 'get the look' kit goes, it is pretty basic but there is the means to create a fairly decent looking smokey eye, but you'd still need to use other items to achieve the look. Some of the products perform a lot better than others, so it's time to dissect the contents...

Professional Eyeshadow Brush + Single Eyeshadow in Black
I had high expectations for this brush as the other Studio brushes are up there with some of my favourites (I mean, they made my Top 5 e.l.f. Must Haves!) This eyeshadow brush just didn't quite meet the mark I was hoping for; although I think it is good for packing on a particular shade, the bristles are very sharp and scratchy, so it doesn't work too great in swiping the colour onto the lids.

As for the single eyeshadow, the plastic packaging feels very cheap, but the eyeshadow inside isn't as bad as I thought it would be! The shade is simply labelled 'Black' but it is a lot more than that, as it has a lot of micro glitter throughout which looks amazing on the lids. Blending wise, it does take a bit of work but this sort of shade is best used packed onto the lid with a softer grey colour blended out in the crease.

Brightening Eyeliner Pencil in Black [can be indivudally purchased for USD $1.99 here]
My particular pencil arrived blunt and unsharpened, and I'm unsure whether this is how it should be but I had to give it a sharpen as it makes it much easier to work with. It is a pretty good eyeliner pencil; it's a bit harder than your normal kohl pencil, which I quite like as you can control the amount of smudge you want. The colour is very dark and black in one swipe, so it takes minimal effort to use on the lid.

Eyelash Curlers
I didn't know that I really needed new eyelash curlers til I tried these; they quickly replaced all other curlers I have and became a fast favourite (they made the cut for Most Loved July). The handles are so comfortable and easy to grip and they just do a brilliant job at curling my lashes and keeping them curled. I think the $5 or so you pay for the kit is worth it purely for these things!!

Lengthening & Defining Mascara In Black [can be individually purchased for USD $1.99 here]
Out of the five products, this mascara surprised me the most - it is actually really decent! I hadn't used any e.l.f. mascaras before, as I didn't think they would be that amazing. This one does what it says, giving quite a bit of length to the lashes. The formula initially is very wet and the brush collects a lot of the mascara, but I just wipe a bit off and then swipe away on the lashes.

At USD $5, there is enough good points in the kit that gives it a lot of props. I think the brush is a bit of a throw away but the other four products are good, and worth the $5 for the eyelash curler alone. You can find the kit right here and you can use the code RMM029 for $10 off your first order over $40.00, or $5 off orders under $40.00.

Have you got this kit from e.l.f.? What do you think of it?
