Art and Architecture books take up the majority of my book shelf, which comes as no surprise as I have a Bachelor of Architectural Studies and am 6 weeks off completing my BA in Art History. My book collection has been growing and growing since I started uni six years ago (has it really been that long?), and beside makeup and nail polishes, I am constantly buying new books here and there. Book Depository is my favourite place to shop online for books as they are so cheap and they have free worldwide shipping, but I also love book sales and often Whitcoulls and Paper Plus have some amazing bargain books which is where I recently picked up these four new books.
HATCH - THE NEW ARCHITECTURAL GENERATION // Kieran Long
The focus of this book is the future, looking at architecture and firms who are pushing the boundaries on design and the architectural practice. The layout and design of Hatch is inspiring and really well done. It works its way through 114 architects in alphabetical order, giving a glimpse into their aesthetics and what we might expect from buildings in the future. I am all for the conceptual and futuristic design and I absolutely love this book.

If there is one publishing company I love the most, it's Taschen. They produce some beautiful books and this one is no different. Vol. 3 curates 73 artists from the contemporary art world today and it showcases some pretty amazing and obscure works across artists from all over the world.
THE WORLD'S GREATEST ARCHITECTURE - PAST AND PRESENT // D.M. Field [NZD $34.00 via. BD]
This is architectural history summed up in one book, covering buildings from the ancient world right up to the 20th century. It is filled with gorgeous photographs and is simply laid out with short text talking about each building.
CONTEMPORARY ART - THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO 200 GROUNDBREAKING ARTISTS // Charlotte Bonham-Carter & David Hodge [NZD $21.00 via. BD]
Although I love art history and the works of the great masters, I am definitely a contemporarist at heart and these sorts of books I love as they give a short overview of some of the big names in the art world right now. It is a compact book, with a minimalist layout that has a brief history of the artist, and then some words on one or two of that artists work.
Although I talk mostly beauty on CM, I do have a huge passion for architecture and art and love giving little snippets into other parts of my life and I hope you all enjoy that as well.
