The matte liquid lipstick trend is not showing any signs of slowing up; more and more brands are releasing their take on the lip product, with M.A.C now extending their range of Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolors*. There are now 12 new shades in a range of muted neutrals and deeper tones that have got me so excited for Autumn/Winter!

I have used one of the Retro Mattes before (the amazing grey shade from the Make Up Art Cosmetics Kabuki Magic collection, see it here), so I already knew what to expect with the formula. They come packaged in an elongated M.A.C lipstick tube, with the same lipstick cap which twists off, with the colour clearly shown in the bottom half. Some have said they don't like the packaging but I love how it fits in with the brand and you can clearly see the shade inside.

The shades in this new drop are unbelievably gorgeous that I want to collect them all. I was lucky enough to be sent three of the shades, which you can see above; Young Attitude, a blackened teal, Flesh Stone, greyed neutral brown, and Ess-presso, a deepened chocolate brown.

As matte liquid lips go, these have a very light formula which dries downs to a suede-matte finish that isn't too drying. A bit of lip balm underneath helps to make these glide on with ease and gives a little bit of a barrier between the lips and the colour, if you are prone to drier lips. Young Attitude is a bit streaky out of the three I have here, but it just takes another lighter coat on top to even out the colour. The other two shades are opaque in one swipe on the lips.

The shade selection as I mentioned is ideal for Autumn and Winter, the shades are; Carnivorous (blackened red), Dash O' Spice (yellow-beige), Simply Smoked (brown taupe), Cafe Au Chic (greyed beige), Burnt Spice (creamy dirty rose), So Me (greyed plum, Topped With Brandy (deep dirty rose), Uniformly Fabulous (blackened grape), and Chocotease (warm chocolate brown).

The new range is available now from all M.A.C stores and counters and they retail at NZD $50.00.

Have you used the Retro Mattes before? What shade would you go for?
