To know me is to know I am a big nail polish lover. Whilst going to get your nails done is always a treat, I love doing my own nails at home especially being able to change up the colour a lot more often and trying out different shades or even dabbling in some nail art. Many of the brands are releasing their own line of gel-like manicures to mimic ones that you would get in a salon. These promise the longevity of this sort of manicure without the lights or curing, but do they really work? I've put the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Formula* to the test.
The Miracle Gel line is an extension of their normal polish range, with a selection of shades that are to be used with the Miracle Gel Top Coat to create the same shine and thickness you get with a gel mani. These polishes either come in a two pack which includes your chosen colour and the Top Coat, or they can be brought individually. Obviously, it pays to buy the pack first and then your individual shades after that. The Top Coat does not need to be activated with a UV or LED lamp like most and says that it uses natural light to set your nails over time.
I have four shades of the Miracle Gel Range; 244 Mauve-olous (creme medium muted pink), 238 Regal Rose (a shimmery light pink), 630 Tawny Travels (creme dark red), and 411 Ba-Bloom (iridescent coral red). I really love all three shades, particularly 244 Mauve-olous as I find this is such a flattering shade on the nails. A couple of them you can get away with one coat, but I always do two thin coats for good measure. I am a big fan of the brush on these polishes as it is wide and flat and basically covers the whole nail in one swipe.
The Top Coat goes on quite thick and I made the mistake the first time of using too much and it took ages to really set down. The next time I used it, I made sure to get a bit off the brush and then did one consistent swipe down the nail. It doesn't dry down as quick as other top coats such as the essie Gel Setter, but it does give the nails a beautiful shine and gloss that looks professional. My only issues are that my manicure definitely didn't last 14 days (or 2 weeks) as promised on the packaging, and I started getting chips from about day 5 onwards. This is a little bit longer than some polishes, but certainly not the length they claim. This doesn't faze me too much as I am used to changing my nail colour every week or so anyway. The pros are that there are some really nice shades to chose from, and you don't need to fuss with soaking them to remove the colour - it comes off easily with your regular remover.
