THEBALM | Balmsai Eyeshadow + Brow Palette - Review + Swatches

THEBALM | Balmsai Eyeshadow + Brow Palette - Review + Swatches - CassandraMyee

I've been meaning to get this review up for well over a month now, so finally, it is here! In November I reviewed another amazing TheBalm Palette; the Balm Voyage! (review and swatches here) and talked about how I got that and this Balmsai Palette from NZ Sale for only $9 each - I honestly couldn't believe it! TheBalm does some seriously great products, and their palettes are no exception.

Balmsai is an eyeshadow and brow palette, with 15 eyeshadow shades and 3 brow shades (although they work well as shadows too!) in a variety of shades and finishes.

IN THE BUFF [BASICS]
The first six shades cover your lighter neutral needs. They are all shimmery to some degree and are ones I tend to go for the most. Wipe Out and High Tide makes great highlighting colours, Hang 10 is a lovely soft gold, Dream Boat is a light shimmery pink, Sandbar is an amazing duo-chrome of pink and a light olivey-green, and Tubular is a gorgeous golden bronze. All the shades have great pigmentation and blend out well too. I do find that all the shades kick off a bit of fall out, so be wary with the darker shades below.

MAVERICKS [SPLASH OF COLOR]
This is where the palette gets a bit more interesting with some colourful shades, and darker tones. Epic is one I reach for often, and is a soft mauve bronze, Surf's Up is a steel blue/grey with silver through it, Big Kahuna is a shimmery turquoise blue and something a bit different to use in the inner corner, Kawabunga is an olive shade with a hint of gold through it, Surfari is an amazing burgundy purple with a duo-chrome of blue, and Pipeline is an iridescent purple/blue.

CURVE & ANGLE [BROW/SHADOWS]
There are three brow shades included in this palette, all are matte and all of them also make great shadows as well, especially for blending and using in the crease. Score is a very light brown (good for blondes), Dig It is a more ashy toned, and Woodie is your standard brown shadow.

CATCH A WAVE [USE WET OR DRY]
Now these shadows are a little interesting in that they can be enhanced by using them wet. Stoked is matte black base shadow with purple glitter through it, Ripper is a matte dark brown, and Righteous is a matte black. The last two make great eyeliner alternatives for a more softer approach then liquid or pencil. Using them wet definitely helps with the pigmentation.

EYE STENCILS
I'm yet to actually use these stencils but they make quite a good addition if you're new to make up or need a bit of help with your brow shape, or cat flicks. One of them is a Cat Eye Stencil, which to be honest looks like more trouble than it worth, but what I do like is the notches on the side to help you get a more precise flick. The second stencil has a brow guide on one side and the other is a Shadow Fallout Guard which is a great idea, especially good for the dark shades in this palette.

Overall I really like this palette; there is a good mix of shades and colour combinations that are interesting and make me step out of my usual neutral territory! For $9 this was a total steal, I still can't quite believe I managed to nab it for that cheap. Keep an eye out for other TheBalm sales on NZ Sale, otherwise you can shop some of their range at Beauty Bliss here in NZ.
