Urban Decay palettes are likely some of the most covetable in the beauty world. When I really first started getting into makeup a few years back, all I heard about was these Naked palettes and I instantly knew I needed one - the day I finally got one was very, very exciting! Now I own the Naked2, Naked3, as well as the smaller Naked Basics and Naked Basics2 - without fail I will use one of these palettes everyday as they are my all time faves. So when I heard they were bringing out a new Naked addition in the form of the Naked Smoky Palette, it went straight on to my wishlist.
The Naked Smoky Palette knocks it out of the park like all of the other releases from Urban Decay. This one has the same layout of 12 shades, all carefully curated so you can create the ultimate smokey eye, or keep things relatively neutral. The packaging is a little different from the past palettes and it has a heavier plastic case, magnetic closure and a semi-translucent finish that looks so awesome with the swirls of smoke on the lid. They've ditched the rounded corners and tin packaging like the Naked2 and 3, but it still remains the exact same size with a large mirror inside. Also included is a double ended brush, one ended has a smaller pointed pencil brush, the other end is a larger fluffier blending/crease brush.
The range of shades in this palette are really stunning. There's a good mix of lighter neutral shades, some amazing bronze tones and then the deeper blues and steel greys. There are nine brand new shades in this palette, and three others that have been repromoted from other exclusive palettes. With eight shimmer/metallic shades and four matte shades; it's really versatile and a number of looks can be created with it.
FIRST SIX
As you might expect the pigmentation is totally on point. Urban Decay do some of the best eyeshadows in my opinion and these ones live up to the high standard they set. All of the first shades are metallic in some way or another and start off light and neutral, and then move to some taupe, and silvery-grey tones. I absolutely love High, Radar and Armour.
LAST SIX
The rest of the shades go from dark back to light. Black Market is a black satin shade, and creates the ultimate of smokey eyes. I like the inclusion of the plum shade, Smolder, for something a little different. The rest of the four shades are all mattes and cover the bases for a crease colour, blending shades, and good base shadows for building on. Somedays I'll just do a simple look with Combust all over the lid and a little bit of Password lightly in the crease and outer corner. I love that you can keep it light and natural, or go in dark and heavy with this range of shades.
In terms of the shade range and in comparison to the other Naked Palettes, I think the Smoky is likely closer to the original Naked Palette (which I am yet to own). It is definitely a lot different to the Naked 2 and 3 as you can see above. If you're a palette junkie like me, I can definitely recommend this palette and it would make a welcome addition to any makeup bag - might be one for the Christmas list, perhaps?
