Today I am coming at you with another eyeshadow palette review - I know that lately my blog has been saturated in palettes but they are definitely one of my favourite makeup product and I have a lot of thoughts on them! This one is from TheBalm and is the Meet Matt(e) Trimony Matte Eyeshadow Palette* (as always, they deliver with the punny names of their products!).
Most eyeshadows palette available lack a lot of matte shades in them, you're lucky if you get a few in a larger palette, and may only get 1 matte shadow in a quad for example. Matte shadows, while they're not the most exciting (I know we all love a good shimmer and glitter), they're certainly the most usable, useful and versatile of the shadow formulas out there. Any good eye look should have a matte shadow in their somewhere; as a base, a transition, a brow bone highlight, a buffed out soft liner, you get the idea! I am into brands that offer and celebrate the humble matte shadow, such as Urban Decay, and now most recently from TheBalm.
As with other products from TheBalm they play on this vintage 50s sort of style, with unique illustrations and stand out product names. The Meet Matt(e) Trimony palette comes in a large style cardboard palette that has a really decent mirror in it.
The shades themselves are a good mix of the sorts of matte shades you may need. I definitely find I get a lot of use from this even on its own to create a simple matte eye look. There are 9 shades ranging from dark to light as below. Overall the quality was really good on most of them, some of them were a little dry and chalky on swatching (as you can see in the photo), but I find they do blend out ok on the actual lid. The lighter tones definitely have a better pay off as opposed to the darker ones.

I really like that it's not all brown/nude neutrals, with the inclusion of the pinky/red tones something a little different. Overall as far as matte shadows go, I think this is a good palette to have on hand and would compliment many other shadow palettes well. TheBalm is totally cruelty-free as well and you can find the brand in NZ at Life Pharmacies and Farmers for NZD $69.99.
