You remember when contouring and highlighting was all the rage? Things have definitely calmed down in that department, but I still love a good highlight and contour on the day to day. I'm not talking anything too extensive like a Kim K Kontour, but a little bit of bronzing and shading, topped with a glistening highlighter will always have room in my beauty routine. Most brands released some form of highlight and contour palette, so let me introduce you to TheBalm's offering - the Highlite 'N Con Tour Palette* (named in typical TheBalm fashion).
The Highlite 'N Con Tour Palette comes with eight pans inside; 2 shimmer highlights, 2 matte highlights, 2 contours, 1 bronzer and 1 blush. It is laid out in a way that is quite different to other palettes, and TheBalm definitely knows how to inject some fun and quirkiness into their products. While I do really like the packaging, I wish the pans were a little bigger as it is hard to get a brush into them, especially the bronzer which is something you want a big fluffy brush for. That aside I think the powders themselves are really good quality and you can make them work with a slightly smaller brush.
TheBalm does highlighters extremely well - Mary-Lou Manizer is one of my all-time favourites, so it's no surprise that the two in this palette are just as good. There is a more champagne highlighter and the other is more golden. The two matte highlighters are great for brightening the undereye and using as a base for the shimmer highlights. The powders have great pigmentation and feel buttery soft and silky to use.
The two contour shades are quite dark, one is warmer and the other is more cool toned. Again these are really pigmented like the highlighters, so you really only need to lightly tap your brush into the pans otherwise you have the risk of going overboard! These do blend well, so if you do go a bit heavy handed you can buff them out. The bronzer shade is quite warm, so not particularly good for those with quite pale skin tones, if you have olive skin, or more of a medium skin tone this would work best. The blush shade is a pretty standard rosy pink which I think works for most people and is one I personally really like.
Overall the palette certainly hits some highs, but it does have a few lows, but not enough to make me not want to keep using it! You can purchase TheBalm in NZ from Farmers for NZD $69.99.
