COLOURPOP | Element Of Surprise Pressed Shadow Palette - Review + Swatches - CassandraMyee

Time for another Colourpop Palette review and swatch post featuring the Element of Suprise Pressed Shadow Palette that came out in 2017. This palette is a little bit of a different mix, and definitely is 'surprising' if that's what they were going for with the name!

If you haven't read some of my other Colourpop Palette reviews, here is a quick rundown. They contain 12 shadows, all at a smaller size compared to the individual shadow pans you can buy. The pigmentation of their shadows are really amazing for the price and most of the shadows in these palettes are unique to each palette.

The Element of Surprise Palette comes in a striking purple packaging with pink and green accents with purple foiling. It definitely sets itself apart from the other palettes with a mix of neutral tones, and some more exciting mauves, purples and pinks. This is one of the only palettes that contains all four of their finishes: matte, satin, metallic and duochrome.

The quality overall is really consistent in the palette, this one does, however, have noticeable fallout and some of the duochrome shades are very crumbly and don't seem as well pressed into the pans as others. I think the mix of shades is really great and I like that there is a couple of brighter tones in there, but also some staple matte browns. I feel like you can get a lot of varying looks just from this one palette and wouldn't need something else to supplement it.

The shades from top to bottom are:

Feels | metallic soft opalescent pink
Late Night | metallic copper with gold duochrome
Silk Street | matte purple-fuchsia
Rayon | metallic dark coral with blue-green duochrome
Go With the Flow | matte true peach
Subdue | metallic lavender with blue-green duochrome
Opulent | metallic bright true fuchsia
Labyrinth | matte dusty pink
Blank Canvas | matte deep maroon
Sea Stars | matte medium yellow brown
Details | matte smoky burgundy sprinkled with hot pink glitter
Peace of Mind | metallic bright burgundy

If you need a little push away from the usual neutral shadow shades, this palette would be a great step to introduce some colour to the eye without it being too 'out there'. I reach for this one quite a lot out of the 6 (or is it 7?) palettes from Colourpop that I own.

You can get this palette for USD $16.00 direct from the Colourpop website and they offer free international shipping on orders over USD $50.

Do you have this palette? What do you think of the shades overall?
