There is no denying that Korean beauty is a huge 'trend' at the moment, especially with Western beauty brands. K-beauty products, formulas, packaging and ideals have all trickled down into more mainstream brands, and now Australian owned Australis Cosmetics has released their own adaption of some of the most loved K-beauty trends in their KPOP Collection*.
When I first saw that Australis was releasing this KPOP range, I was a bit sceptical and I think a few people weren't so happy about how they adapted the Korean beauty trends into this small collection of products. I think the products are fun and quite cutesy, but if you want to try Korean beauty, I would just go for the legit brands (I have a big haul featuring some of the favourite brands here). It's not to say these products aren't good (more on them below), but I feel like you need to try the original K-beauty brands to really understand how they use and wear makeup. The focus is on very clear, bright and dewy skin, with sheer washes of colour to define certain features such as the cheeks and lips.
So onto the products themselves. First up is the Illuminating Cushion* (NZD $19.99) in a universal brightening shade. This is sort of a strange one and I wasn't quite sure on the best way to use it when I first opened it. The 'Cushion' system of dispensing products came directly from K-Beauty and now you can get one in most brands ranges in either foundation, blushes, bronzers etc. Basically, the cream/liquid is held within a sponge that you can use a brush to dab into and then apply. This shade is a light pinky tone and it has quite a sticky formula although this does dry down. You can use this all over the skin and then apply makeup over the top as a primer/illuminating base, or what I prefer is using it as a highlighter. It looks more natural and gives a wet sort of glossy glow to the cheeks. I don't think this shade is going to work for everyone though and is more suited to those with lighter skin tones.
The very cute trio of heart-shaped tins contain a Blush*, Highlighter*, and Contour* (NZD $9.99 each) in a powder formula. These are pretty small pans and do look a bit like kids makeup but the actual powders work really well and blend nicely. The Blush shade has that NARS Orgasm sort of colour, with a pink base with golden shimmer through it. The Highlighter is a yellowy champagne, and the Contour shade is on the cooler side of the spectrum so works well to define the cheekbones.
Korean beauty is well known for their lip tints, usually in these bright tones that leave a sheer wash of colour to the lips and a stain that will last all day. I think out of the range, these are the products that I really enjoy the most - the Lip Tint Oils* (NZD $14.99 each). They come in three shades; Coco, Gigi and Mimi respectively. As you can see the formula of these is really sheer, which is a good thing because in the tube these colours are super bold and bright! The doe-foot applicator collects the perfect amount of product to apply to the lips and it feels so nourishing on the lips which then fades to a tint throughout the day. I am a big fan of these and I know that over Summer for the no-makeup makeup days, these Lip Tints are going to be used a lot!
There are two other products in the range which I don't have here which is a Liquid Eyeliner and the All-In-One Mascara. Australis is available to buy in stores and online in Australia and New Zealand and all their products are cruelty-free.
