If there is one M.A.C collection you should check out this year, make the Make Up Art Cosmetics Collection it. For the first time, they have collaborated with three famed makeup artists around the world who are pushing the boundaries of 'traditional' beauty and basically creating art in their work. Kabuki Magic, James Kaliardos and Diane Kendal have each created their own capsule collection of products based on things they use or products that they wanted but previously couldn't find in other products, hence creating the perfect selection for them in their signature style. I am so excited about these products and the whole idea of the collaboration.
At the end of January, I was treated to an intimate event with Kabuki, an amazing man who has worked with almost every big pop star under the sun. He took us through his collection and demonstrated them on a model; it was a fascinating, inspiring and once in a lifetime event to hear and see him work in such close proximity.

The products all have the Make Up Art Cosmetics Spring/Summer 2017 logo on them, with each product signed by the makeup artist who co-created it. They have kept with the traditional matte black which I like, and I feel like this would be an amazing collection to see come out every couple of seasons with new makeup artists. I mean what better way to celebrate makeup artistry by teaming up with the pros who use it!

KABUKI
UK born, Kabuki (real name Richard Ogden) had his first big break creating the makeup looks for season 1 and 2 of a very small TV series Sex and the City. Yep, Sex and the City - how amazing is that for a first break! From here, he went onto to work on numerous films, and music videos for Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, you name it, he has likely touched their face. Along with the pop stars and musicians, there's models, runways, and endless streams of magazine makeup credits which he has worked on. Seriously Kabuki is the big leagues of makeup artistry!

Kabuki's collection is very daring and more fashion runway then it is every day, although the products are designed to be versatile and adaptable which I can totally appreciate. His range has a couple of Crystal Glaze Glosses (2 shades, NZD $55.00), a Powder Blush Duo ($60.00), The Shining Hour Dazzleshadow Quad ($88.00 - this one is gorgeous from what I have swatched), The Best of Everything Eye Shadow x 4 ($88.00), Paints in white, blue, green and royal purple ($48.00), two Brushes ($74.00 and $48.00), and a set of Lashes ($28.00).

Also in the collection are four shades of the Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (4 shades, NZD $55.00). As he spoke while doing the makeup demonstration he casually said 'I was doing Kendall's [Jenner] makeup for her Japanese Vogue cover and I had to mix a couple of different shades to make the perfect nude lip", from this he discovered it and immediately took it to M.A.C to be developed into his range, which you can find in the shade Sweet Thing. One of the more daring shades is this mid-tone stone grey in the shade This Modern Age*; it's definitely not a shade for everyone but I think it does actually work and with the right makeup look you can pull it off. The Retro Mattes have a great formula and I love the applicator which just glides on the lips and applies it evenly.

DIANE KENDAL
Another UK born MUA, who now lives in NYC, Diane has a background in theatrical makeup and has worked with a number of famous photographers, creating makeup looks for the shoots. She has also had makeup looks in Vogue's around the globe, as well as a number of other magazines and frequently partners with big name fashion designers to create looks for their advertising campaigns and runways.

Diane's collection includes: Enhance Me Casual Colour Lip + Cheek x 6 ($88.00), Opulash Mascara ($42.00), Cover Me M.A.C Studio Conceal + Correct Palette ($88.00), Kajal Crayons (4 shades, $40.00), a Brush ($74.00), and the below products.

Thi is the Glamourise Me Cream Colour Shadow x6* ($88.00), a gorgeous selection of jewel toned cream shadows. From top to bottom: Glowing (light gold pearl), Dynamic (reddish brown with pearl), Alluring (royal purple with pearl), Enigmatic (reddish plum with pearl), Daring (navy blue with pearl) and Rebellious (deep blackened-brown with pearl). They have a creamy and light texture but they set down on the lids. They make great eyeshadow bases to build up pigment on top or work well alone, applied with your fingers and blended with a brush.

There are two shades available of the M.A.C Studio Quiktrik Stick, one for slightly lighter skin tones Radiance/Shadow and the above for medium/dark skin tones in Sheen/Smouldering* ($78.00 each). These are dual ended cream sticks that are used for contour and highlighting and great for the makeup bag. Although this shade looks a bit dark, a light line of this below the cheekbone adds good definition and the cream formula blends so nicely so it doesn't look harsh on the skin. They are a lot easier to work with compared to a powder contour!

JAMES KALIARDOS
Detriot born, James Kaliardos is world renowned and has worked on campaigns and campaigns with huge fashion brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior, YSL, Chanel etc, you name it, he has probably worked it! He has also worked with a number of photographers and magazines, and alongside his makeup artistry, he also co-founded V Magazine. He has also done the makeup of the likes of Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, and Selena Gomez to name a few - his resume is huge!

His collection fills in the gaps missing from the others and includes: Lipsticks (4 shades, see two below, $44.00), Tricolour Lip Gloss (2 shades, $52.00), In The Well Eye Shadow (2 shades, $42.00), Jumbo Penultimate Eye Liner ($44.00), Pressed Pigment (2 shades, $55.00), Haute + Naughty Too Black Lash ($48.00), Lash set ($28.00, and two Full Face Kits (Moons of Jupiter, and Moons of Saturn* below, $115.00).

These kits I think are so genius; they are compact and portable and contain a blush, contour/bronzer and highlighter in one. Pictured here is Moons of Saturn Full Face Kit*, it includes Rhea (bright pink, coral cream colour base), Gypsum (light golden champagne pear with fine silver reflects, cream colour base), and Natural Sandstone (matte light golden bronze, sculpting powder). I like the top contains the cream which slides across to reveal the powder so it doesn't get too messy. The pigmentation on all of them are really good and these kits are one of my favourites from this whole range.

Finally, a M.A.C collection wouldn't be complete without some lipsticks and James' collection has four shades. I have two of the shades,  Jasper (deep reddish brown, satin finish), and Bloodstone (bluish mid-tone red, amplified finish formula). You can't go wrong with a M.A.C lipstick and these are well pigmented and signature shades that are timeless.

And there you have it, yet another incredible collection with some stellar makeup artists. It arrived on counters in NZ from February 20th, and is available at all counter and worldwide. I can't rave about it enough!
