MOTHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE FOR THE BEAUTY LOVING MUM

MOTHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE FOR THE BEAUTY LOVING MUM - CassandraMyee
With Mother's Day fast approaching on the 8th of May, I thought I should compile a little gift guide perfect for a Mum who is a lover of beauty. Although I am not a mother myself, I am a beauty addict and would love to receive any of these products as gifts and I'm sure your Mum will too! I've broken it down into sections, so there's a bit of everything, covering skincare, makeup, nails, and hair.

When thinking about buying the perfect gift for your Mum, it's best to think about what products she loves and uses most frequently. It could be she loves pampering herself with nice skincare or treating herself to a fancy lipstick, or she might be a nail polish junkie, or she might get her nails professionally done so it would be best to steer clear of them. If you are completely lost for ideas though but you know she is into beauty, I've got a few suggestions for you that I'm sure she'll enjoy.

SKINCARE

Skincare can be a little tricky to buy for other people, as you may not know what skin type they have or what their main concerns are. As we get older, though, our skin does tend to get a bit drier, so look for products that have a lot of hydration in them, or are aimed at anti-ageing (honestly, even if you're in your 20s it's best to start looking after your skin well now!)

Estée Lauder offers a whole host of luxurious skincare products. The Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Aging Creme* ($90 for 30ml, $160 for 50ml) contains special IntuiGen Technology to help stimulate the regrowth and regeneration of cells in the skin. In clinical studies over four weeks, 92% women said they had a significant improvement in the firmness and texture of their skin. There's a lot of science behind it and it all seems very complex, but overall it is aimed at making the skin appear more youthless, smoother and radiant, and what woman doesn't want that?

If she's into natural products the Manuka Doctor ApiNourish Age-Defying Eye Cream* ($34.95) is pretty affordable considering it is packed with all natural ingredients. It contains bee venom that is scientifically proven to boost collagen and refine the appearance of fine lines, as well as other natural ingredients to help brighten and de-puff.

Clinique is another brand that does a lot of great skincare items (and also makeup!). The Clinique Smart Treatment Oil* ($69.00) would make a great addition to any skincare routine, it contains argan oil, and a triple antioxidant blend to help nourish the skin, reducing fine lines and creating a smoother and radiant complexion. I think every woman should have an oil in her skincare routine no matter the age or what skin type you have - they are magic little bottles and only a couple drops are needed to reap the benefits.

Your Mum might already be a fan of the Advanced Night Repair from Estée Lauder (perhaps one of their hero products), with a new addition to the range being this Micro Cleansing Foam* ($70). It is a light foaming cleanser, used at night to deeply purify the skin, getting rid of excess dirt and makeup, making the perfect canvas for oils and moisturisers to penetrate the skin further.

 BODY TREATS

A good body wash or moisturiser will never go astray for a beauty lover and will always be put to good use. There are some great new releases that would make the ideal Mother's Day gift.

The Body Shop have just brought out the beautifully scented British Rose collection which I reviewed earlier in the week (have a read here). The Instant Glow Body Butter* ($36.95) or the Shower Gel* ($16.50) are great options if you don't want to spend too much money but still treat your Mum. Plus the pink packaging and roses are very fitting for the occasion.

Trilogy has recently repackaged their Everything Balm* ($34.95) which contains rosehip, pawpaw and echinacea and it can be used for pretty much everything! It's a do it all balm, perfect to use on dry skin on the body, on nappy rash, to treat dry lips, or even as a cuticle oil or intensive hand cream. It is one of those products that's great to have around.

A PRETTY PERFUME

Perfumes always make lovely gifts, so it could be a good idea to replace one of her favourite/ signature scents, or treat her to a new one like this gorgeous Lancôme La Vie Est Belle L'Eau de Toilette Florale* ($128.00, 50ml or $175.00, 100ml). It has notes of osmanthus, magnolia, jasmine, rose, orange blossom, mimosa and violet. The base notes are iris, white patchouli, amber wood and mask, so it is definitely for the Mum who likes a floral fragrance. Not only does it smell lovely, the bottle will also look great on display.

NAIL POLISH GIFT SET

If I was a Mum this is the sort of Mother's Day gift I'd be into. Put together a little nail care set which can include a hand cream, nail file or buffing block (this one from QVS* is only $10.99), a base and/or top coat and a nail polish colour. I love the Essie range of polishes as they are relatively cheap ($19.95 a bottle, or you can find a small selection at Postie+ for only $8.00) and they have a great shade range and beautiful formula. Wrap it all up in some cellophane or a nice bag and that would make a really thoughtful gift.

A NEW LIPSTICK

Now you can't go wrong with a lipstick; if I received one as a gift I would be over the moon! There are so many beautiful lipsticks on the market, across a variety of price points - one to suit everyone's budget. I think treating her to a high-end lipstick would definitely get you in the good books and there is nothing like opening a new YSL or M.A.C lipstick.

YSL is probably the ultimate in luxe lipsticks, the Rouge Volupte Lipsticks retail for NZD $65.00 and is so creamy and beautiful to use. Bobbi Brown has a great range too, starting at around $54.00. The new Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer* range ($46.00) has loads of gorgeous shades and come beautifully packaged, with the colour easily visible on the exterior. A M.A.C lipstick ($40.00) is a classic and you can't beat their shade selection and range of finishes from mattes to cremes.

For something a little cheaper, I highly rate the L'Oreal Color Riche* range ($26.99), they are well pigmented and have good lasting power. If she's into natural and cruelty-free, Karen Murrell Lipsticks* ($30.00) is NZ made, smell like cinnamon and are packed with nourishing ingredients (swatches of a few shades here). Antipodes are another natural NZ owned brand and their lipsticks ($34.00) are so lovely to use and have some great colours available.

NEW HAIR TOOLS

If you really want to splurge on your Mum, how about treating her to a new hair dryer! This Remington Shine Revival Dryer* ($159.99) has some serious power to it and is amazing to use, drying the hair very quickly. It also comes with a round styling brush, some clips, a small carry bag and an Argan Oil based Shampoo and Hair Mask. I will be reviewing this hair dryer more next week, so stay tuned for that.

I hope this Mother's Day Gift Guide will help you out and give you some ideas of what to get your beauty-loving Mum, I'm sure she would be appreciative of whatever you give or do with her on the day.

Are there any products here your Mum would love? What do you usually do to treat your Mum on Mother's Day?
