Cleansing balms and cleansing oils are having a real thing in the beauty industry at the moment, and I ain't complaining about it! I absolutely adore The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil for taking off my makeup at the end of the day, but recently I've been using this brand new Trilogy offering; the Make-Up Be Gone Cleansing Balm*.
Trilogy is an amazing organic and natural skincare brand, with every product I've used from them having great results and they always feel very luxurious on the skin. Their Rosehip Oil is particularly amazing and a cult product that is a must try! So what's the deal with this Cleansing Balm then? If you're unfamiliar with the whole concept, you basically use this on a dry, makeup laden face (they suggest using 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon sized amount) and massage it into the skin. With the warmth of your face and hands it will start to break down into an oil and your makeup will start to break down with it, then you take a warm cloth and wipe away the oil and your makeup basically just disappears with it. It works really well on face makeup and lipsticks, but I find it doesn't break down my mascara and eyeliner as much as I would like. I do pack on a lot of mascara though, so if you are a lighter user of it then this should get rid of the majority of it - I have to use a separate remover in conjunction with it for best results.
Ingredients wise, it has mango seed butter in it, which is an anti-inflammatory, and also helps to soften the skin. Sunflower seed oil, which helps to calm and sooth the skin, with vitamin E and other fatty acids. There's also coconut oil, which is proved to be amazing for the skin (many people use this on its own as a cleansing balm type product); it is naturally antibacterial and helps to heal and repair the skin. Of course, it wouldn't be a Trilogy product without their certified organic rosehip oil in it which helps to hydrate, nourish and treat the skin, and fade dark spots.
There's no oily residue left on the skin after using it; instead my skin feels plump and hydrated and not stripped like some cleansers can do. I do go in with a traditional cleanser afterwards to give my skin a deeper clean, once all my makeup is removed.
