My Sister's Travel Makeup Bag

You've taken a squizz into my travel makeup bag a few times before, so it was about time to show you inside someone elses. That someone being my lovely younger sister, Emily. While we were both up in Auckland a few weeks ago, I thought it would be the perfect time to riffle through and see what makeup items she brought along with her (i.e. the Full Exposure palette, it's beautiful) and got her thoughts and opinions on a few of the products.

Emily's makeup bag is an adorable one from Cath Kidston that she got via. ASOS at the end of last year sometime. It has two clear zip compartments either side and is pretty perfect for travelling with.

PRIME
Em has two primers on the go at the moment; both from Benefit. The Porefessional (which I love) is what she uses under the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation, as it helps it to glide on smoothly and last all day. The "That Gal" Brightening Face Primer is what she uses for a more lighter base, that also adds a bit of brightness to the face. She says it feels a lot more like a moisturiser consistency than silicon like The Porefessional.

BASE
Emily really covers her bases with these three [get the pun?] Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream for Oily Skin in Light is when she wants a lighter base, I also really like this BB Cream, as it gives a nice light coverage but still neutralises redness and just evens out the complexion a bit. For medium coverage, she used the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation in 103 True Ivory and for full coverage her "holy grail" she tells me is the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in 100 Ivory (which I am also a fan of).

CONCEAL
She packed two concealers; the Rimmel Wake Me Up Corrector Concealer, for under eyes as it lightens and brightens, is not too heavy and blends well, and for blemishes, the Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer in Cool Medium 2.

SET
Another two products that I love as also some of Emily's! She uses the Rimmel Stay Matte Lasting Pressed Powder in 001 Transparent for setting her whole face, focusing on her T-Zone and after that, she uses the e.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set to ensure everything is locked into place.

CHEEKS
A compact duo that is perfect to travel with is the e.l.f. Studio Blush & Bronzing Duo in St. Lucia, Em finds that they aren't too shimmery and blend out well (I really like this duo too, and it is so cheap!). For another blush option, she threw in the e.l.f. Studio Blush in Tickled Pink that she uses on a daily basis and loves it as it gives a natural flush.

EYES (PART 1)
Much like me, Emily can't just decide on one eyeshadow palette to travel with so she had packed two. First off is the amazing looking Smashbox Full Exposure Palette and she uses the matte shadow options on a daily basis; they have great pigmentation and blend very well (side note: she finds the shimmers to be quite chunky and super glittery, not so good for everyday wear). Another of her favourite palettes is The Balm Nude'Tude Palette, which covers the pinker and deeper shimmery tones that are missing from Full Exposure. This palette is also really slim so great for slipping in the makeup bag.

EYES (PART 2)
For liners, she went to town on the packing! She brought along the Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner in Black, as she is trying to get into using liquid liner more. I did a back of the hand test with this and it seems well pigmented but not as black as I'd like, but sets very fast. An oldie but a goodie comes in the form of the Maybelline Expert Wear Crayon Eyeliner in Ebony Black; Emily has used it for years and finds it blends out easily and smudges nicely along the upper lash line. For gel liner, she uses the Fashionista Fashion Secret Gel Eyeliner in Black, which she finds much easier to work with compared to liquid liner (total opposite to me!)

She doesn't do a lot to her brows, but swipes through some of the brown from this e.l.f. Eyeshadow Duo (that has no shade name). And finally for mascara, she loves the Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara in Very Black. The rubber wand makes it easy to do bottom and corner lashes and definitely lengthens the lashes.

LIPS
Emily loves a bright lip so I am not surprised she packed so many options! Like me, she loves the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms in Elusive, Unapologetic and Showy (which are the same three I own and have blogged about here) and they are her favourite matte lip products to use. As a gloss option, she has the NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee, an easy to wear, nude gloss. One of her favourite lipsticks at the moment is MAC Satin Lipstick in Snob (review of it here) and also MAC Amplified Lipstick in Up The Amp, which is an amazing purple, great for the cooler months.

BRUSHES
I definitely got Emily onto the Real Techniques train, so she has the Real Techniques Blush Brush, Expert Face Brush, Multi-Task Brush and Domed Shadow Brush. She also has a couple unbranded eBay brushes, that she uses for bronzing and contouring, as well as some double ended Napoleon Perdis Brushes, from the Regal Brush Collection. They're great for travelling as they are doubled ended and cover your bases when it comes to eyeshadow.

And that's the lot! If you want to follow my sister, you can find her on Instagram @emilyjane16 where she posts a lot of cats, makeup and food (great combo!)

Have you got your hands on the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette? Are any of these items, makeup bag staples for you too?
