What do you get when uber chic fashion house Balmain team up with massive international brand L'Oreal? A freaking amazing lipstick collaboration that you do not want to miss out on! I was super lucky and privileged to receive the most amazing faux snakeskin luxurious AF box containing all 12 shades from the L'Oreal x Balmain collaboration*. These shades are daring, bold and not for the faint-hearted.
As you can tell I had a lot of fun photography these lipsticks - they are just so unique and with colours a little out of the ordinary. The packaging ties in with the other recognisable L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick tubes, with the Balmain twist designed by Mr Olivier Rousteing himself that looks like an expensive stone (inspired by malachite, lapis lazuli and onyx). The collection is split into three categories; Rock, Couture and Safari with the idea that there is a shade in the collection that suits every single skin tone and that is totally something I can get on board with.
They say that each of the lipsticks has a matte finish, but there is a real mix, with some having a sheer lustre, some are highly pigmented and most definitely matte, but overall they're more of a satin finish in my mind. The lipstick texture is a lot thicker than other L'Oreal lipsticks and most take a couple of swipes to build up the intensity and even out the colour.
ROCK
The Rock collection features the vibrant blue packaging and the shades are; Freedom (purple), Power (red-brown), Rebellion (Balmain blue) and Legend (dark brown). Although these may not seem like your everyday colour they are all pretty stunning and something a little more daring.
COUTURE
This collection probably has the most wearable shades in it and two of the best ones in my opinion, Liberation and Domination - that red is one of the most flattering red tones you could ask for. The shades in the Couture line up include; Liberation (dark purple), Confession (peach), Domination (true red matte), and Confidence (rose gold with gold lustre).
SAFARI
Very aptly packaged in the green malachite inspired casing, this range of four is certainly the most out there and in my opinion the least wearable. The shades include; Balmain Instinct (army green), Fever (red-orange), Urban Safari (light beige) and Glamazone (brown). These are definitely the ones I will be getting the least wear from.
This limited edition collection won't be available for much longer and in New Zealand, you can find it exclusively at Farmers nationwide for NZD $24.99. While most of the shades aren't going to appeal to everyone, there are a couple of standouts and the packaging certainly is enticing.
