Let me introduce you to the brand new lipstick range from Maybelline - The Loaded Bolds*. These have been out in the USA for a little while now, but they have just made the shores of NZ and will be out in stores now. This range packs a huge punch with some super vibrant shades and also a white and a black lipstick...
This 10 shade collection is much more daring and bold than any other range that Maybelline has offered before. They are on trend with some neutral browns and greige shades, but also offer some more 'wearable' colours too. The white and black obviously can be worn alone (if you really wanna be a bit out there), but they are designed to be mixed in with other shades to make your own unique custom colour. The white base is going to lighten and the black is going to add a bit more darkness. I think it's a fun concept and adds some versatility to the shades.
The packaging is on brand with the other Maybelline lipsticks; a squared off exterior, with a semi-transparent plastic lid and silver bullet. This time around it's a dark navy to signify the Loaded Bolds range.
So on to the good stuff - the swatches! As you can see, these are highly pigmented lipsticks and have a satin/matte formula. It does transfer, but it also lasts for hours as well. For only 10 shades (well, 8 if you exclude the mixers), I think it's a good selection of tones. Gone Greige and Midnight Merlot are totally gorgeous shades and perfect for Autumn/Winter. The red, orange and pink are vibrant colours for Spring/Summer - really, there's a shade to please most people. Obviously, they haven't got any dusty rose shades or nudes, but don't we all have enough of those in our collections anyway?! The white and black are really opaque too which makes them ideal for mixing. You could either swatch them on your hand and mix and then apply to the lips, or go straight in over top and pat over to blend them together. It's a good way to experiment with different shades and change them to suit!
