MANUKA DOCTOR | Brightening Facial Oil Review

MANUKA DOCTOR | Brightening Facial Oil Review - CassandraMyee

As a combo/oily skinned gal, I thought oils would be a total no-go and I avoided them for the longest time. But since reading a lot of blogs over the past year or so I've delved into the facial oil world with great results. I am a huge fan of the Trilogy Rose Hip Oil (review here), and adore the Linden Leaves Miraculous Facial Oil, so when I was sent the Manuka Doctor Brightening Facial Oil* I was ready to slather this on my skin.

MANUKA DOCTOR | Brightening Facial Oil Review - CassandraMyee

I've seen the odd post about Manuka Doctor but was relatively unfamiliar with it as a skincare brand, although the majority of their products include manuka and they seem to be well known for their bee venom products. The thing that instantly drew me to this oil is that it is totally natural and included some stellar ingredients. Manuka Oil (sourced from NZ) is great for fighting bacteria, it also works as an anti-inflammatory and helps with skin discolouration. Argan Oil works to help regenerate the skins flexibility and has protection against anti-oxidants. Tamanu Oil helps to reveal new healthy skin while promoting the growth of new tissue. Avocado Oil is high in vitamins A, B, D and E, is anti-bacterial and is anti-wrinkle apparently! Rose Hip Oil (one of my faves) helps to improve the skins texture and reduce scarring, dark spots and discolouration on the skin. You've gotta hand it to them, that's a pretty kick-ass team of oils!

The oil is housed in a lovely glass bottle that looks rather fancy, with a dropper so you can ensure you are using the perfect amount each time (around three drops). As this is all natural, the smell is definitely not so pleasent, but I've learnt to get used to that with these natural skincare products. The oil surprisingly feels very light weight and at night after cleansing, toning, and using a serum, I apply this to my skin, massaging it in as much as I can. It doesn't sink in straight away and like most oils, sits on the skin for a few minutes. Because of my combination skin I use this in place of a night cream most nights, but you can definitely use a night cream after this to really amp up the moisture levels for your skin. Sadly I think this may have been the cause of a few break outs, although they could have been caused by a number things - it's very hard to pin point exactly. I do really like the oil though and I can see the benefits of it, especially on my forehead and cheeks (my chin might not be so fond of it!) I think continued use will do the world of good and for mature skins this would be a brilliant introduction to your skincare routine.

Unlike some facial oils, this is priced so well and you get this 30ml bottle for NZD $29.95. It can be found at Life and Unichem pharmacies, or check the stockist list on the website for more details (here). This brand is also available in the UK, USA and Australis (that I know of).

Have you used this oil before? Or have you used any products from Manuka Doctor; what do you think of them?
