Summer took a heck of a long time to arrive in NZ, but now it is here and in Auckland at least, it's hot, sticky and humid. Trying to get my makeup to stay in place is a daily mission, but at least the humidity is really good for your skin! RY (Recreate Yourself) is an amazing website to shop all sorts of beauty products, and they have launched their 'Summer Edit', a page with all the products you could possibly need for summer from SPF to tanning products, and even sweatproof products. I have chosen a couple of things from this selection to share my thoughts on that I think are summer must haves.
Jane Iredale Glow Time Full Coverage Mineral BB Cream* | AUD $62.32
I have only ever used one other product from Jane Iredale, and it's a brand I am not so familiar with. The line is all hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested, with a focus on mineral products, and they are cruelty-free. BB Creams are generally quite light in texture and also have a lighter coverage, but have a host of benefits for the skin. This one from Jane Iredale has the magic of a BB cream with an SPF 25 UVA/UVB PA++ that is water resistant for 40 mins, but it also has really good coverage from medium to quite full.
The texture is on the thicker side and requires a bit of blending (I use a damp sponge) and only a small amount to get a significant amount of coverage. It gives a nice glow to the skin, but if you are oily you will need to set it with a powder as it does transfer and move around. The ingredients list contains some great things such as Grapefruit Extract to help with luminosity and radiance and to help minimise the appearance of pores and wrinkles. It can also add in fading pigmentation. There's also Apple Extract to exfoliate, refine and rejuvenate, Sunflower Seed Oil which is rich in vitamin E, and Aloe Leaf Juice to soothe and calm the skin. I love that this not only works well as a good base, but it also has a huge amount of skincare benefits too. There are 8 shades available and I have BB5, which is a good match for me currently with a yellow undertone.
Kora Organics by Miranda Kerr Foaming Cleanser* | AUD $44.95
Supermodel, Miranda Kerr started Kora back in 2009 and it is Australian owned and operated and they are all certified organic. I haven't seen the brand in NZ to buy, but you can find the full selection on RY.com.au. I chose the Foaming Cleanser to try out as cleansing is such an important step in your skincare regime. I really like the packaging of this range, the mint green is fresh and reflects the range perfectly. The cleanser comes out as a strange browny shade, but once on the skin, it starts to lightly foam up with a bit of water. I find my skin always looks and feels better after using it and it removes the excess makeup and dirt but doesn't dry the skin out. This one is aimed at oily to combination skin and contains Aloe Vera, Green Tea and Sandalwood to cleanse the skin and also protect and heal.
Skindinavia The Makeup Finishing Spray - Oil Control* | AUD $39.95 (118ml)
Skindinavia were pretty much the first to launch makeup setting sprays and for me, they are an essential all year round, but more so in the Summer. My skin tends to dissolve makeup very easily, which isn't helped by the fact that I have oily skin in the first place. The Skindinavia sprays help to set everything down and it almost creates a barrier so your makeup doesn't rub off or get as oily as quickly. The mist is very light so it creates an even layer on the skin and I think it works so well, and by the end of the day, my makeup is still pretty much intact. As well as setting sprays for after makeup, they have primer sprays and even some more skincare related sprays too. Skindinavia also produces the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray too, and I have to say they are basically the same, even in the scent which is no surprise. This product is Summer must have, for sure!
Lulu & Lipstick Eyelash Curler Gold* | AUD $29.95
I use a lash curler daily, even if I am not wearing makeup, and this one is so nice to use place it looks so pretty as well. Curling your lashes makes a lot of difference as it lifts them and makes them more visible, even without any mascara, so perfect for no makeup days if you are hitting the beach during summer.
RY always send samples with their orders, so I got a mini nail file which always comes in a handy and some samples from Dermalogica and Model Co. They ship to NZ and Australia and offer international shipping too, more details here.
Have you used any of these products? What are some of your summer essentials?
