M.A.C TECHNIQUE | Workshop Classes + New Product Updates - CassandraMyee

A couple of months ago I was lucky enough to be one of the first in NZ to try out the brand M.A.C Technique Masterclasses and experience their newly launched app to go along with it. The event I went to was held at Westfield St Lukes in Auckland, where they had a very sleek black and glass box set up, with makeup stations and a stage where the demo was done. Although I do know a fair bit about makeup application, there is always something new to be learnt, especially from one of the top M.A.C MUA's Kiekie Stanners who ran the class. Along with the app launch, we were also able to test out some brand new products that have launched which I can't wait to tell you about.

The M.A.C Technique App can be downloaded for both Android and Apple and becomes the first port of call for booking a class, seeing what classes are available, as well as storing notes and photos while you are having your session. There are 13 different classes which focus on various looks/trends and how to achieve them from Day To Night, Celeb Chic, All Day Fabulous, Beauty Basics etc. Each session is 2 hours, which is an hour longer than their other classes they have offered in the past.

When you book a session, you then get access to a face chart on the app which will give you a run down on what they will be going over. During the class, you can add notes under each step of the way as well as photos of either the products used or a selfie to see how the products looked on yourself. You can also add what products were used and at the end it gives you a complete list, and then you can easily find what shades you used etc. All of these are stored on the app and can be accessed after the class is finished.

The best part about these sessions, in particular, is you get to apply the makeup on yourself, with a M.A.C Makeup Artist on hand to help you after each step has been talked through and demonstrated on the model. Hands on learning is always a lot more effective than simply watching someone else apply products; it also allows you to get a feel for some M.A.C products you may have not tried otherwise. The M.A.C Technique sessions are NZD $120, with $100 of that redeemable on product. I think it's a fantastic price and I found the class to be so much fun, as well as learning lots of tips and tricks.

As well as learning all the tips and tricks from MUA's, you will also get one of these exclusive makeup bags for free after completion of the class. These aren't available to purchase any other way and make the perfect bag to stash all of the new products you would have got after the session is finished. This would make such a fun thing to do for birthdays with some friends, or even as a hen party.

Now for some of the new products that they have released. We were so lucky and got to play with products that were totally embargoed at the time, such as the new range of Strobe Creams that are now available.

Strobe Cream in Redlite* | NZD $70.00
The original Strobe Cream is now available in 4 other shades, Redlite, Goldlite, Silverlite and Peachlite, with the original now being called Pinklite. Each of them has a different undertone to them and gives off the most amazing glow to the skin. You can mix these in with your foundation, or use alone, or lightly dab along the high points of the face for a natural highlight. Kiekie even applied it on the collarbone and top of the shoulders to catch the light and give the skin a lot more dimension.

Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Beaming Blush* | NZD $64.00
As soon as I swatched this in the session I knew I was going to need to own a few! These are such gorgeous highlighters, they feel smooth and buttery and this particular shade is a peachy pink shot with gold. There are three other shades available in this range; Double Gleam, Soft Frost and Show Gold. These were both part of the In The Spotlight Collection.

Spellbinder Shadows in Higher Power + Gravity's Pull* | NZD $48.00 each
Perhaps one of the most exciting things we were introduced to was these incredible and innovative eyeshadows. These are pigment shadows that are ionised and magnetically charged so the pigment stays together and provides amazing colour pay off. They have the strangest texture, it almost feels like velvet and they apply well with a brush, but even better with your fingers so you get the most from them. There are eight shades in this range, all are deep, rich jewel tones. These are a must have for your collections, or if you are really into your eyeshadows.

Brow Sculpt in Fling* | NZD $40.00
These Brow Sculpt Pencils were released early September, but I was yet to try them out. These have a slanted lip, with a creamy yet firm formula that builds up the brows naturally. I don't find I can get them super precise as with a more thin nib, but I think that the slanted tip makes it easy to fill in the bulk of the brow in quick strokes. The spoolie on the end is also really good for dispersing the product through the hairs. There are eight shades available and Fling is described as a 'taupe blonde'.

There have been so many great releases recently, especially with this, the Nutcracker Sweet collection and the amazing new Mariah Carey collection (available now, but selling out very quickly). I am looking forward to seeing what they release in 2017!

Would you consider doing the Technique workshops? What do you think of these new products?
