L.A. GIRL | Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks - 13 Shades - Review + Swatches

L.A. GIRL | Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks - 13 Shades - Review + Swatches - CassandraMyee

Surely you all know by now if you're a consistent reader that I am a matte lipstick fanatic. I love lipstick in general, but always tend to reach for a matte formula as I prefer it for lasting power and I love how it looks. L.A. Girl has recently come out with a new lipstick range, the Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks*, with an extensive 26 shade line up. I have 13 of the 26 shades to share with you today with swatches and my thoughts on the formula below.

These lipsticks come in a slightly different style than your traditional lippie. They are housed in a long tube, with the colour clearly shown on the top of the lid making them a dream to store and easy to find what shade you may want. The bullet is cut on a sloped angle, much like the Wet N Wild Megalast Lipsticks, and actually, they do remind me a lot of them but a touch creamier than those.

The overall 26 shades are amazing and there should be something to suit everyone's taste - I mean there is even a blue (Blue Valentine), a grey (Poetic) and a black (Raven), which I'm yet to wear out of the house but love just chucking on my lips to wear around the house. Formula wise, you can't fault them. They're saturated with pigment, have an amazing colour payoff in one swipe and are creamy, yet they don't slip around. The large bullet does make it slightly harder to get a crisp edge especially around the corners of the mouth, but a lip liner or a lip brush (or even a steady hand) will help you achieve a flawless application.

I think the name of these describes them very well, they have a flat, matte finish, but the texture is very velvety and smooth, making them comfortable on the lips and non-drying. They do transfer, although not as bad as other lipsticks with a matte finish, and you can get a few hours wear from them comfortably. There are a few shades in the bunch that I don't think I'll get a whole lot of wear from as they aren't the most flattering shades on me, but some of my favourites and ones I would recommend are Hush, Relentless, Manic, Runway and Va Va Voom!

These retail for NZD $12.99 on the NZ L.A. Girl website here, or you can get them for a little cheaper at $11.00 from Beauty Bliss. If you're interested in seeing some of the other 13 shades, check out my lovely blogging friends Makeupper and Lani-Loves, who have gorgeous lip swatches on some of the shades I don't have (plus their blogs are incredible with amazing content that you all should follow).

Have you got any of these L.A. Girl Lipsticks in your collection? What shade would you wear the most?
