I feel like its been well established that I love Essie nail polish. I'm pretty sure my collection has almost doubled since I did this particular post here - the obsession is real! New to the Essie line up is the Gel Setter Top Coat*, designed to give that gel like manicure look to the nails without all the fuss, and naturally I was curious to see what it was all about.
Gel setter works like any regular top coat, apply your base coat, pop on two coats of your favourite polish and then glide a layer of this over the top - too easy!
I put it to the test with a gorgeous Essie shade called Double Breasted Jacket* that was part of a the 2014 Winter release. Essie describe it as a 'passionate tourmaline ruby'; it's on the more pink side of red, almost like a raspberry shade and it looks so nice on the nails for Spring. I could have easily got away with only one coat of this shade as it was so opaque, but did two thin coats to build up the colour on the nail.
The gel setter is quite thick and the brush on this is so wide that it does the entire nail in one go. I found that it set down really quickly and within about 10 minutes my nails were basically dry. It gave an amazing shine and gloss overall, which is what I love about it. As for wear time, I don't think it prolonged things as much as I would like, but I got a good solid 5 days without any obvious chipping.
You can find this at Farmers and selected pharmacies for $24.99, and I would really recommend it to anyone needing a good top coat!
What do you think of this Essie shade? Have you used gel setter yet?
