If you're a regular around these parts you will know I am quite a fan of beauty subscription boxes, I've had Sample Box (now closed down), Violet Box, Lust Have It and now I am also giving Goodie Box a try. Goodie Box has been on my radar for ages now but it seems to be a bit hit and miss a lot of the time. I was considering joining up after Sample Bar closed down, but then decided to go with Violet Box instead, but with the announcement that July would be Goodie Box's Birthday Month, there were high hopes and expectations that this was going to be a really good one! I'll be honest, there was promise of the new Benefit Push-Up Liner in the box so I pretty much signed up straight away as I am very keen to try it out, but I've been left slightly disappointed...
Goodie Box works exactly like any other subscription box service, you pay a monthly fee of $29 (this one was $33.50 total) and it states you will get five beauty products that are a mix of sample sizes and full sized products. It ships out at the end of each month, so the July box came at the end of July (side note - why don't they just label it the actual month? Technically this should be the August box, but anyway, I digress...) I love how this one comes packaged, with a bright pink box and black ribbon.
So let's get into the Birthday Box; it contained four full sized products and two samples, all from brand that I have heard of and tried before (bar one). Now my disappointment in the box lies with one product - The Benefit Push-Up Liner. They released a sneak peek last month and it stated that every July Goodie Box would contain a They're Real Push-Up Liner. Now although I am really pleased to get the chance to try this, I feel as though they needed to be a bit more explicit about the actual size we would be getting and it should have at least said 'sample'. I know that I probably got my hopes up with that one but the sample is truly tiny and definitely not a normal mini size that Benefit offer. With that little rant aside, I'll delve into the details of each items that was in the box.
Schwarzkopf Professional Bonacure Repair Rescue Instant Repair Shot // [RRP $8.00 (10ml)]
I was surprised that this is actually a full sized of this product and it promises that you should get two treatments out of it. The idea is you pop it into the ends of towel-dried hair, leave it in for two minutes and then rinse out. My hair could definitely do with some nourishment and repair on the ends!
Linden Leaves Eye Rescue Serum // [RRP $49.99 (15ml)]
The hero of this box is definitely this Linden Leaves product; alone it exceeds the amount of what you paid for the box. I've absolutely been loving the Linden Leaves product line and I actually already have one of these Eye Serums that I won through a competition with The Races Auckland, but have yet to use it. These roller ball type products feel so nice on the eye area so I look forward to using this.
Carmex Moisturising Lip Balm // [RRP $6.99 (7.5g)]
This seems to be a subscription box staple as I got one of these in the very last Sample Bar box last year. It is very much like Blistex and it is quite intense and strong on the lips. I'll likely be giving this one away to a friend as I haven't even made a dent in the other tub I have!
Manhattan Endless Stay Duo Eyeshadow in Bonnilicious // [RRP $22.00 (18g)]
I've seen the Manhattan brand before on a couple of other blogs I read but never tried the products. It is a German brand and I'm not sure you can even buy it online, so that is a bit disappointing. These are cream eye shadows and I quite like the silver, but I don't know how much use I will get out of the pink side, we shall see how the month goes!
Benefit They're Real Push-Up Gel Liner // [Full Size RRP $45.00 (1.4g)]
Now to the teeny tiny liner! I probably sound really ungrateful but it could have at least been a decent size. It has 0.10 grams of product in it and is only 6cm long. I can't imagine this is going to go far, especially as the reviews that I have seen says it can be tricky to work with, so it might take a few go's to get used to. As soon as I took it out of the foil packaging, the lid won't stay on it and it keep popping off, so that's a pain! Benefit, I love ya, but come on... this is pretty sucky!
Dr. Hauschka Hydrating Foot Cream // [Full Size RRP $43.00 (75ml)]
The final product is two 2.5ml sample sachets of a foot cream. This could be quite nice but I don't think I will be forking out $40 for the full sized one any time soon.
Overall, to be honest, pretty average. The one redeeming product is the Linden Leaves Eye Serum, and although I am feeling very negative towards the sample of the Push-Up Liner I do look forward to using it. At the end of the month I'll do the usual End Of Month Review like I do with the other beauty boxes and give my final opinions on the products then. The total value of the items in this box is around $93.00, considering I paid $33.50, on paper it's not such a bad deal. I think that I'll still get next month's Goodie Box to give it a chance, but Violet Box and Lust Have It are definitely much better options in my opinion.
Have you got a Goodie Box subscription? Did you sign up just for the Birthday Box like I did; what'd you think about it?
